About Us
Who and What is EERC?
We believe that exposure to other cultures is invaluable in shaping children's views of the world and of their own potential. We want to help promising children to engage in Romania's future to their maximum potential. Our program is particularly timely in view of Romania's recent entry into the European Union. Romania's future will increasingly be a global one.
Our principal mission is to create the opportunity for underprivileged Romanian children of exceptional promise to attend summer schools in Boston area, and to experience American life by living with a local family. At the core of our mission is the belief that early exposure life in another country, the USA, will shape these children’s future in positive and enduring ways. We believe that this experience can also open further opportunities for them to pursue when they return home.
Equally important is to present these vibrant young people as ambassadors of Romanian culture. In our experience, the Americans whose lives they touch find these interactions enriching and gain new insights about Romanian culture. These shared experiences produce benefits to both sides that extend long beyond the immediate experience, even to subsequent interactions that occur beyond our program.
We target children who show exceptional promise and who demonstrate the intellectual and emotional maturity to benefit from this unique opportunity. They are boys and girls from underpriviledged areas in various areas of Romania, aged 12-15, who are fluent in English and who demonstrate strong academic and personal characteristics.
With our help, this rising generation will contribute to Romania's engagement in a world without borders. "Opening doors, opening minds .... one child at a time."
